Recipes for the Relief of Cystitis, etc.

Part I. Cystitis

Aromatherapy can be used as a natural and effective method for the relief of cystitis,

A. Massage for the lower abdomen

Compositions:
For 5 ml of the basic oil(s);

  1. 1 drop each of lavender, chamomile and bergamot
  2. 1 drop each of lavender, chamomile and sandalwood

Application:
Drop essential oils of the chosen composition into the basic oil(s). Massage the lower abdomen over the bladder area in a clockwise motion. If you are applying before bedtime place, а wool scarf, piece of material or small towel over the massaged area.

B. Hot compress

Composition:
5-6 drops of chamomile and 3 drops of tea tree, or sandalwood.

Application:
Drop essential oils of the chosen composition into a bowl of hot water. The water should be hot but not so hot that the compress is uncomfortable on the body. Make a wetting pad using a piece of material, or small towel and place in a bowl of essential oil mixture. Squeeze the cloth and apply to the areas to be treated, rewet as needed. Keep the compress on 20 minutes to 1 hour.
The process is less intense than a massage since it effects the skin and blood circulation only where the compress is placed. It will have a weak and gradual impact. The effects can last from several minutes to several hours, depending on how long the compress is left in place.

Part II. Infections of the Genitourinary System

Compositions:

  1. 4 drops of juniper and rosemary and 2 drops of benzoin
  2. 5 drops tea tree, 3 drops bergamot and 2 drops of chamomile

Application:

  1. Body or sitz-bath. Drop essential oils of the selected blend into 100 ml milk, stir in the essential oils and add to the tub water. Remain in the bath 15-25 minutes.
  2. Cleaning. Drop essential oils of the selected blend into the water to clean the genitourinary system.

Recipes for Colds and Viruses

There are different ways to use aromatherapy against colds and viruses. Almost any type of aromatherapy application can be used.

I. Dry inhalation

Compositions:

  1. 4-5 drops each of eucalyptus and lemon oils
  2. 4-5 drops each of eucalyptus and lavender oils

Application:
Use of aromatization from:

  1. essential oil burner
  2. spray of 50 ml water with essential oil(s)

II. Steam inhalation

Compositions:

  1. 4-5 drops of eucalyptus oil
  2. 4-5 drops of tea tree oil
  3. 2-3 drops each of eucalyptus and tea tree oils
  4. 2-3 drops each of tea tree or eucalyptus and rosemary oil, or peppermint oil (in the morning)
  5. 2-3 drops each of tea tree or eucalyptus and lavender or marjoram oils (for the night)
  6. 2-3 drops each of benzoin or thyme and frankincense or sandalwood oils (soothes coughs)

Application:
Drop essential oil(s) of the chosen composition into steaming water and breathe with the steam. Steam inhalation is a method of introducing warm, moist air into the lungs via the nose & throat for therapeutic benefit. The hot steam moistens the nasal passages, thus clearing your blocked nose and opens up congested sinuses allowing you to breathe more easily.

III. Rubbing chest

Compositions:
For 5 ml of any basic oil;

  1. 1 drop each of eucalyptus, lavender and rosemary oils
  2. 1 drop each of caputa, cypress and lemon oils

Application:
Drop essential oils of the chosen composition into the basic oil. Rub chest with this blend. If applying before bedtime place а wool scarf or piece of material on chest.

IV. Hot tubs

Compositions:

  1. 6-8 drops of tea tree oil
  2. 3-4 drops each of eucalyptus and tea tree oils
  3. 3-4 drops each of eucalyptus and lavender or lemon oil

Application:
Drop essential oils of the chosen recipe into 50-100 ml of milk, stir oils and dissolve the mix in a hot tub. Use any time of day. Great for promoting calm and relaxation before bedtime.

Guide to Some Essential Oils than Can Work as Antiseptics

Many essential oils have natural antiseptic properties. How do antiseptics work in essential oils? It turns out that the plants from which the oils are created, produce antiseptics to protect itself against microorganisms. The interest in antiseptic essential oils came about with the increasing resistance of microorganisms to existing antibiotics.
Antiseptic essential oils are derived from almost all parts of plants: citrus fruits, herbs, resin, leaves and wood of trees. The main influencing components are the monoterpenes that are antibacterial and antiviral, and alcohols, which provide anti-infective properties.
All the following essential oils, except tea tree and lavender, should be dissolved in basic oil(s) for cutaneous application. Almost any essential oil is antiseptic. The following is only the most used essential antiseptic oils.

Characteristics of antiseptic essential oils

Benzoin (antiseptic and healing). Effective means of treatment of diseases of the upper respiratory tract and nasopharynx: asthma, bronchitis, sore throat, laryngitis, cough, and rhinitis. Helps with disorders of the genitourinary system. Good for healing damaged skin and promotes healing of wounds and ulcers. It is good for the treatment of minor scratches and pimples.
Bergamot (antiseptic, healing and helps to prevent scarring). No substitute for the treatment of urinary tract problems. Great antiseptic for intestinal problems. It is also good for respiratory infections and tonsillitis. It also helps with acne, boils, wounds, herpes, scabies, eczema and psoriasis.
Citronella (antiseptic). Helps fight against infection – especially effective as a room disinfectant agent.
Chamomile (antiseptic, healing and anti-inflammatory). It has a calming effect in diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and the genitourinary system. Use for cuts, abrasions, wounds and ulcers. Heals burns, boils and abscesses. Reduces swelling and relieves itching of the skin.
Clary Sage (antiseptic and anti-inflammatory). Improves the condition of patients with respiratory system problems. Relieves inflammation and swelling of the skin.
Eucalyptus (antiseptic, bactericidal, healing, expectorant, anti-inflammatory, helps to prevent scarring). Particularly used for infections of the respiratory tract and nasopharynx and is best known for its expectorant action. Good for the treatment of the genitourinary system. As a remedy for cutaneous diseases is used for healing cuts, wounds and ulcers, burns and rashes on the skin (including herpes).
Frankincense (antiseptic and healing). Used in diseases of the respiratory and urinary systems. Effective in the treatment of skin inflammations, wounds and ulcers.
Garlic (antiseptic, bactericidal, expectorant, cauterizing, antiviral, antifungal and helps to prevent scarring). It is especially recommended for respiratory and intestinal infections. Good to use for almost all types of lesions on the skin. Disinfects wounds and ulcers. Helps corns and warts.
Geranium or pelargonium (antiseptic, healing and helps to prevent scarring). Effective when used to treat infections of the throat and nose. Used in jaundice and urinary tract infections. Helps with burns, abrasions, sores, eczema and herpes. Removes puffiness.
Ginger (antiseptic and expectorant). Good for colds, flu, diarrhea.
Juniper (antiseptic, healing and helps to prevent scarring). A very effective antiseptic for the genitourinary system. Good for skin with acne, dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis.
Kaput (antiseptic and expectorant). A wonderful antiseptic for diseases of the respiratory system and urinary tract. Very irritating to the skin, so be sure to use with a basic oil. Sometimes recommended for psoriasis.
Lavender (antiseptic, antibacterial, healing, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antifungal and helps to prevent scarring). Good for treating respiratory and throat infections. Particularly effective in the treatment of burns, abrasions, wounds, eczema and psoriasis. Treats pimples and acne. Treats abscesses, blisters, prevents the development of skin fungus and reduces swelling.
Lemon (antiseptic, bactericidal and healing). As an antiseptic, it can improve symptoms of the flu, sore throat, colds and cough. Effective for herpes. Softens scar tissue. Heals abrasions, wounds and warts.
Lemongrass (antiseptic, antibacterial and antifungal). Prevents the development of infectious diseases: sore throat, laryngitis, herpes, etc. Improves the condition of fungal diseases of the foot.
Lime (antiseptic, antibacterial and antiviral). Very effective in respiratory diseases: decreases pulmonary congestion and cough, relieves sinus congestion.
Myrrh (antiseptic, healing, expectorant, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and antimicrobial). Helps with all types of diseases of the respiratory system, as well as for thrush. Used in diseases of the mouth and gums: ulcers, gingivitis and so on. Effectively treats poorly healing (including oozing) wounds and skin diseases.
Myrtle (antiseptic, bactericidal and expectorant). It is useful in pulmonary and respiratory diseases. Used in the treatment of coughs in children as it is softer than eucalyptus. Normalizes functions of the urogenital system and intestinal tract (hemorrhoids). Useful in swelling of the skin. A good additional tool in the treatment of skin rashes. Resolves hematoma.
Nayoli or niaouli (antiseptic, bactericidal, healing and helps to prevent scarring). The composition and properties close to the essential oil of tea tree. Helps in the treatment of all types of respiratory diseases and infections of the gastrointestinal tract and genitourinary areas. Heals abrasions, wounds, ulcers, burns. Cleanses the skin with acne and boils.
Oregano (antiseptic and healing). One of the best oils for pulmonary infections; thins mucus and relieves coughing. Resolves bruises. Use in small amounts – can cause desensitization and drowsiness.
Parsley (antiseptic). Since ancient times, it is recommended to use in diseases of the kidneys and bladder. Stimulates digestion. Narrowing the capillaries, cleans the wound and dissolves hematoma.
Peppermint (antiseptic, expectorant and anti-inflammatory). Good for colds and the flu. Has beneficial effects on the digestive system, including cases of poisoning. Reduces inflammation and relieves pain caused by sunburn. Effective in treating skin irritations and dermatitis.
Pine (antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and antifungal). Strong antiseptic for the treatment of bronchitis, laryngitis, sore throats and flu. Used to treat urinary tract infection (cystitis). Treats the skin from suppuration and crusts. Treats dermatitis and psoriasis.
Rosewood (antiseptic and antibacterial). Effective means of combating germs and viruses. Valuable antiseptic for the throat. Apply to the skin with acne, cuts and wounds.
Rosemary (antiseptic and helps to prevent scarring). A useful tool in the treatment of respiratory diseases, as this essential oil penetrates quickly into the body. However, in the evening it is better not to use.
Sandalwood (antiseptic, bactericidal, expectorant and anti-inflammatory). It is used for respiratory diseases and infections of the genitourinary system, including kidney disease. Especially useful for dry eczema. Used for pimples, boils, abrasions, wounds and ulcers. Reduces itching and inflammation of the skin.
Tea Tree (antiseptic, bactericidal, expectorant, antiviral, antifungal and prevents scarring). A powerful antiseptic that helps in fighting infectious diseases and strengthening the immune system. It is unusual in that it works against all types of microorganisms: bacteria, fungi and viruses. Used for the treatment of infectious diseases of the respiratory tract, nasopharynx, genitourinary and gastrointestinal tract. Can be recommended for chronic fatigue syndrome: it strengthens the immune system. Often used for cutaneous diseases: drains pus and helps to prevent scarring. Treating burns, warts, herpes and, ulcers.
Thyme (antiseptic, bactericidal, expectorant, antimicrobial and helps to prevent scarring). Its antiseptic properties are used to treat upper respiratory tract and infections of the nasopharynx, as it prevents the spread of germs and strengthens the immune system. Effective in infections of the intestinal and urinary tracts. Good for cystitis. Heals abrasions, wounds, ulcers. Helps with dermatitis. Used for disinfection of hands.

There are things you can do to protect your body and make it feel and look better but you must have a conscious attitude about keeping it in good shape. This article provides the recipes of various body care. Part one is about cleansing the body, part two about nourishing and deodorizing the body and part three gives information about the use of essential oils to create your own compositions.

PART I. CLEANSING

A. Body Scrub
Salt Scrub – deep cleansing and toning the skin.
Composition for one use:
Mix 4-5 tablespoons of fine sea salt, half teaspoon of olive oil and a little water to the essential oil of your choice.

The following are the properties of different essential oils that you can use to formulate recipes for skin care. This information is given as to skin type. Remember the basic rule of aromatherapy that only oils of lavender and tea tree can be used without the basics. Rules of using other essential oils and proportions of them to different type bases refer to parts of the methods of application of aromatherapy in the article “AROMATHERAPY APPLICATION METHODS’ GUIDE” in the first and second parts of this article.
Anise: For loose and saggy skin. Used for wrinkles. Also used against lice and scabies. It is recommended as a remedy of infectious skin diseases.
Orange: For any type of skin care. Good for oily skin. Especially recommended for sensitive and tired skin. Very good for toning the skin. Apply for water retention and cellulite, eliminates toxins. Helps treat dermatitis. Is used for infants and children…

Aromas and Psychotypes

The selection of our scents is not accidental. Subconsciously we choose perfumes or fragrances that are appropriate to our psyche due to deep psychological motivation. If the scent is selected for being fashionable or “like my friends,” it probably won’t be associated with you by other people. The fact is, the fragrances we like should be true to our own characteristics.

So, look at yourself!

Aromas that are sweet and harmonious are for people who are romantic, delicate, dreamy, good-natured, sweet, and perhaps somewhat egocentric. They are characterized by a platonic speculative attitude to life that causes others to want to guide and protect them.

Aromas of light characteristics are for people who are inhibited, waiting for a pleasant change in life, and perhaps wanting to evoke sympathy to their plight. For such a person, as a rule, corresponds with low energy.

Fresh aromas are attractive to people who consider life at the moment, to be difficult. The more intractable the problem, the more delicate and fresh scent the person chooses. The physiological motivation for a fresh aroma occurs in people wanting to uplift themselves and loved ones.

Green and sour aromas are harmonious to pragmatic and practical people — those who believe a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. They’re not going to get involved in the adventure, and a significant portion of their domestic life is characterized by such concepts as duty, loyalty, and responsibility.

Floral scents attract unhappy people. In particular, those who are dissatisfied with their appearance, financial situation, or position in the family or society. Surrendering to their situation, these people are likely to remain indifferent on the surface and to follow the principle of accepting what is; but inside, they maintain a glimmer of hope despite the outward appearance of acceptance.

The tart characteristics of scents are for strong and passionate people who love adventure and risks. They wouldn’t normally show timidity or caution, although exhaustion is sometimes inherent in them because of such a stimulating lifestyle.

Spicy aromas attract people for whom the basic premise is movement of life and good luck. Although usually such people do not always understand their motives.

Balsamic flavors are a favorite of logically minded people. These people interpret information, processing it with their own way of thinking, and make conclusions based only on their own beliefs and experience. They are usually closed minded people who are difficult to change.

Aromas of resin and wood are harmonious for people who live a contemplative, yet active life, driven by creativity and the desire for personal growth.

Bitter flavors are loved by prolific people with extraordinary abilities and talents. Such people do not like monotony and boredom and are able to work, preferably under pressure, rather than with relaxation and leisure. They are interested in recognition and fame.

Aromas of wet characteristics are for manifesting outrageous people. This psychotype meets egocentrism, mannerisms, sincere forgiveness of the sins of others and confidence only in what has already been.

The dry characteristics of scents are for people who are sociable, sincere, love to talk, and dramatic. The concept of time does not concern them, rather, such a person meets the criteria of the current fact and opinion, relevant to his social circle. They are usually very pleasant, sociable, and harmonious. They are easy to change.

Peppery aromas are liked by people who cannot live without loud music, lively conversation, and who have an outstanding temperament and a keen sense of self-worth. They are able to be deeply committed to a cause. In this case, the comfort and material well-being is a natural need, contributing to their intellectual and spiritual growth. They may also genuinely and selflessly want to help others.

Even though certain aromas suit specific psychotypes the interpretation of the fragrances can change based on the person’s psyche. For example, fear causes some acidity in the tart flavor, and a passionate desire gives tartness to the sweet flavor.

Aromatherapy Applications Methods’ Guide

There are many different ways to use essential oils. In this article I consider only those methods for application of aromatherapy that you can use at home. The information is given as reference. There are other articles in more detail describing the different methods with corresponding recipes. Application methods of aromatherapy can be divided into three main groups, inhalation method, transdermal method, and for internal use.

PART I. INHALATION METHODS

Inhalation methods are related to the effects on the olfactory and respiratory systems. It quickly and gently changes the emotional and psychological state with the association of the aroma. The oil molecules can remain in the air for several minutes to several hours, depending on which essential oils and method is used.
1. Aroma Lamp
Application: The molecules of essential oil evaporate along with water in the air, aromatizing the room and are absorbed by the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract. This method changes the emotional balance slowly and gently but continuously for a few hours, depending on the heating time of the water with the oil. Good to use to create a certain atmosphere. Often used at home for deodorizing and disinfecting the premises and as a means to change the emotional and psychological state…

PART II. TOPICAL METHODS

Topical methods of application of aromatherapy benefits are twofold. The essential oils are absorbed into the bloodstream, penetrating through skin and inhalation methods allow the vapor to be absorbed in the mucus membranes of the upper respiratory track. When planning topical use of citrus oils you need to keep in mind the phototoxicity of certain citrus oils.
1. Body massage, back and face
Application: Components of essential oils dissolved in an oil base penetrates the skin and the blood through the capillaries and spread throughout the body. They are absorbed into the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract, increasing the effect of the essential oils. This treatment rapidly changes the condition and is very effective. The duration of exposure would be up to several hours. Interestingly, short-term superficial massage for 5-15 minutes is stimulating, and a long term 30 minutes deep tissue message is relaxing. PART III. INTERNAL USE

I want to write about ingestion of essential oils. A number of sources caution against such use, but I, for example, find rose oil very helpful in solving my problems with the lability of the emotions. There are oils which are toxic and cannot be used internally. I will always include this information in the table with information about the oil. There are variations in the production of essential oil and it is highly recommended that you know the method of production of the oil, the type of plant that is used, temperatures, storage equipment, etc. The method of distillation using solvents, carbon dioxide or propylene glycol are not suitable for internal use. These would be oils like jasmine, frankincense, myrrh, etc., which could contain solvents due to the distillation method. Suitable oils are prepared by steam distillation or prepared by pressing, including many from the citrus family.
If you decide to take essential oil internally you must verify the product has been specifically labeled as safe for internal use. If you have a serious illness it is absolutely necessary to consult your physician before using essential oil internally. Women who are pregnant or nursing should not take essential oil internally. Those who suffer from arrhythmia, heart, kidney, liver or gastrointestinal disease, cannot take essential oil internally. Be sure to test for sensitivity before taking any essential oil internally…
